St John’s Wort

Hypericum perforatum
St. John’s wort is a cool, bitter herb that works as a sedative, anti-inflammatory, astringent, and most famously as an anti-depressant. Hypericin, one of the active constituents found in St. John’s Wort can effectively fight depression, and overcomes the body’s physical aches and pains as well as mild viral infections.

Calendula officinalis
Calendula disinfects minor wounds and treats infections of the skin. The antibacterial and immunostimulant properties of the plant make it extremely useful in treating slow-healing cuts and cuts in people who have compromised immune systems. The herb stimulates the production of collagen at wound sites and minimizes scarring. An often overlooked application of this herb is the treatment of post-mastectomy lymphedema. Calendula will not reduce swelling, but it will reduce pain.

Comfrey Leaf

Symphytum officinale
Research bears out the claims for the healing properties of comfrey leaf. In one major European study, an ointment based on comfrey root proved more effective at relieving both pain and swelling in patients with sprained ankles as well as being very effective in treating eczema, dermatitis, viral skin infections and ulcers of the lower leg. Allantoin, one of comfrey’s main constituents, breaks down red blood cells, which accounts for its ability to help heal bruises and contusions as well as promoting the growth of muscle, cartilage, and bone growth.

Neem Leaf

Azadirachta indica
The leaves have antibacterial and antiviral properties. It is an effective insect repellant, and its astringent properties make it an excellent treatment for skin conditions ranging from acne to eczema. It is used to treat ringworm and other parasitic skin infections and promotes healing of wounds.

Oregon Grape Root

Mahonia aquifolium
Oregon grape root and other herbs that contain berberine are scientifically proven to protect against bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoans. The roots tannins also explain the herb’s usefulness in treating psoriasis, a condition characterized by the over-rapid multiplication of cells in the skin. In at least one clinical study, a cream containing Oregon grape root eased inflammation, irritation, and itching.

Plantain Leaf

Plantago major
Many of its active constituents show antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, as well as being anti-inflammatory and antitoxic. The leaves are used as a treatment for insect and animal bites and the antibacterial action helps prevent infection and the anti-inflammatory helps to relieve pain, burning, and itching.

Stellaria media
Chickweed is a “drawing herb” typically explained as a microcirculatory stimulant for the skin. It is employed to treat acne, abscesses of the skin, and eczema, while reducing inflammation and encouraging tissue repair.

Jojoba Oil

Simmondsia chinensis
Of more than 350,000 identified plant species, jojoba is the only one which produces significant quantities of liquid wax esters akin to the natural restorative esters produced by human sebaceous glands.

Hemp Seed Oil

Cannabis sativa
Hemp Seed Oil is anti-inflammatory, anti-ageing, balances dry skin, fights skin inflammations, helps heal skin lesions, has anti-oxidants, and contains moisture balancing properties. The oil is non-greasy, readily absorbs into the pores, is an emollient, and has rejuvenating and moisturizing properties for the skin. Adult users of Hemp Seed Oil have reported softer skin, and stronger nails and hair after only a few weeks of using 1-2 Tablespoons per day. The vitamins and minerals present in Hemp Seed Oil are easily absorbed through the skin, resulting in a more vitamin and mineral enriched bodycare product.

Tea Tree Essential Oil

Melaleuca alternifolia
Properties: Analgesic, antibacterial, antibiotic, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, antiparasitic, antiseptic, antiviral, balsamic, cicatrisant, decongestant, diaphoretic, expectorant, fungicidal, stimulant (immune), and vulnerary.

Sea Buckthorn Oil

Hippophae rhamnoides
This marvelous oil has copious amounts of Phytosterol, Vitamin E, Beta-Carotene, Anti-Oxidants, and Carotenoid which helps to substantiate its relatively high success rate as a skin repairing and conditioning oil. Sea Buckthorn has been traditionally used for a wide range of skin ailments for its revered nourishing, regenerative, and restorative actions. Sea Buckthorn oil is used superficially to assist in healing skin injuries, burns, wounds, eczema, lesions, sun damaged skin, and abrasions.
